Thanks Very Mulch

A crew of dedicated volunteers dug into some massive piles of mulch in the City of Ojai Community Demonstration Garden's parking lot on Saturday morning. NovMeetingWeb1.jpg They spread it along garden paths that were lined with cardboard, to prevent weeds. NovMeetingWeb2.jpg It was a lot of work, but the garden will look great all winter! NovMeetigWeb3.jpg Mulching efforts will continue next weekend, so come join the fun! Photos by Donna Dublin.

Carol Wade's Herbal Workshop

October was a busy month in the City of Ojai Community Demonstration Garden. The week after Ojai Day, 24 people came out on a damp, chilly morning to attend a workshop with Carol Wade of Sea of Grace Herbal and Nutritional Counseling. sniffllesFreeWeb1.jpgThe workshop, A Sniffles-Free Fall, looked at a variety of plants that we can grow ourselves to help support our immune systems. snifflesFreeWeb3.jpg
Carol talked about many different ways to use common culinary herbs to either prevent, or make us feel better when we get the sniffles. Gargles and teas are just a couple of the methods she shared from her vast store of knowledge. Carol provided a hand-out with tips for cultivating many of the herbs and green leafy vegetables that she talked about. snifflesFree web2.jpgCarol recommends breathing fresh air and laughing to minimize stress and give your immune system a boost. Those who came had a good dose of each! snfflesFreeWeb4.jpg Photos by Les Dublin.

Ojai Day 2010

Volunteers and the garden coordinator came out to promote the City of Ojai Community Demonstration Garden at Ojai Day in October.OjaiDayWeb2.jpgOur enthusiastic volunteers were happy to give advice and share gardening tips with the public. The display focused on attracting beneficial insects to the garden by cultivating plants specific to each type of insect. OjaiDayWeb1.jpgThe display also included information about attracting butterflies to the garden, and pictures of local butterflies taken in the Demonstration Garden, that were labeled with each butterfly's favorite flowers.
