Oaks and Gardens

Thirty oak lovers came to the City of Ojai Community Demonstration Garden Saturday to learn about gardening in the vicinity of oaks from local arborist Michael Inaba.oak-09-web1.jpgParticipants went home with an informative handout on oak care and a list of drought-tolerant California native plants that are suitable for growing near oaks.0ak-09-web2.jpgMike is a wonderful speaker who kept everyone engaged throughout the talk. oak-09-web3.jpgAfter everyone's questions were answered, the group left the dappled shade of the oaks and headed out to the garden. oak-09-web4.jpg A demonstration of California native plants suitable for growing under oaks allowed participants to see plants growing in the garden that are available locally.oak-09-web5.jpgMike provided a great deal of useful information about each plant in the area. All went home with a better understanding of oak trees, their needs and how to landscape around the oaks in their own yards. Photos by Les Dublin.
