Oaks and Gardens
Thirty oak lovers came to the City of Ojai Community Demonstration Garden Saturday to learn about gardening in the vicinity of oaks from local arborist Michael Inaba.
Participants went home with an informative handout on oak care and a list of drought-tolerant California native plants that are suitable for growing near oaks.
Mike is a wonderful speaker who kept everyone engaged throughout the talk.
After everyone's questions were answered, the group left the dappled shade of the oaks and headed out to the garden.
A demonstration of California native plants suitable for growing under oaks allowed participants to see plants growing in the garden that are available locally.
Mike provided a great deal of useful information about each plant in the area. All went home with a better understanding of oak trees, their needs and how to landscape around the oaks in their own yards. Photos by Les Dublin.
Your oak trees are an important part of your landscape, and they are even more important to the environment! Come learn how you can get the most from your trees, and how to avoid extra expenses to maximize your “green investment.” The workshop will take place rain or shine, on November 14, 2009, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., in the City of Ojai Community Demonstration Garden, 401 South Ventura Street, behind City Hall.
