Irrigation Workshop

Ojai residents came to the City of Ojai Community Demonstration Garden today to learn about low-flow irrigation from horticulturist and landscape designer John Lamar.drip09-web1.jpgIn spite of the chilly weather, gray skies and occasional light sprinkle, there was a good turnout of residents interested in learning how to use less water in their gardens.drip09-web2.jpgParticipants saw different kinds of emitters in action out in the garden, before tackling a project.drip09-web3.jpgVolunteers installed a drip irrigation system in a raised bed.drip09-web4.jpgPhotos by Les Dublin.

At this free, hands-on workshop, you will learn how to set up and maintain a low-flow irrigation system that can reduce water use (and your water bills) and keep your plants happy at the same time. Come have a look at our new automatic irrigation controller with weather monitor, too! The workshop will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2009 from 10:00am to 12:00pm in the City of Ojai Community Demonstration Garden, 401 South Ventura Street, behind City Hall.

Lunchtime

This little fellow was seen yesterday, busily demonstrating how our California native Hummingbird Sage (Salvia spathacea) got its name. hb2.jpgEarly in the fall, when the hummingbird sage has gone to seed, he will return to the City of Ojai Community Demonstration Garden, to enjoy the red california fuschia flowers (Zauschneria californica a.k.a. Epilobium californica) that will appear on the plant in the background. hb1-web.jpgPhotos by Les Dublin.
