Soil Building Workshop Engaged All
Over thirty people stopped by the City of Ojai Community Demonstration Garden this morning, to learn about soil from local horticulturist and arborist Michael Inaba.
To begin, Mike demonstrated a couple of simple methods that are used to determine the type of soil that exists in a specific location.
After a discussion of soil texture and structure, Mike showed the group samples of organic material containing microorganisms that were hard at work.
Full of fungi, bacteria and other decomposers
the material illustrated how organic material improves the texture of soil.
Participants went home able to determine if they have loam, which is composed of equal parts of clay, sand and silt. Photos by Les Dublin.
This free workshop with horticulturist Michael Inaba will take place rain or shine on February 28, 2009 10:00am-11:30am, in the City of Ojai Community Demonstration Garden, 401 South Ventura St., behind Ojai City Hall.
