Michael Inaba Workshop
Twenty-four people came to the City of Ojai Community Demonstration Garden this morning, to learn about oaks from horticulturist Michael Inaba. The setting was particularly appropriate, as participants sat in the dappled shade where the branches of a valley oak and a coast live oak, the two main subjects of today's discussion, intersected.
Inaba, a local arborist, explained the do's and don'ts of gardening around oaks, and dispelled some myths about oak care along the way.
A resident squirrel, who looked on, seemed to think that the workshop was a hit.

I don't think I should! The subject is so complex that I'll just say that there are no hard and fast rules. Each tree is unique because of many factors; the kind of oak it is, its age, history, location, etc.

Not everyone can afford the expense of calling a qualified tree arborist for their oak tree care.
So could you provide, to those of us who cannot, the name of a reputable brochure, book or internet source of information on this topic?
Thank you.

The University of California Cooperative Extension at Berkeley, Natural Resources Program has an excellent brochure called "Living Among the Oaks: A Management Guide for Landowners."

A thoughtful insight and ideas I will use on my blog. You've obviously spent some time on this. Well done!

Few people may agree but not me! You have the capacity to learn from your mistakes. You will learn a lot today.
