Goddess Moon Permaculture Takes Root ...

A valley-wide permaculture guild has been formed, and a first permaculture-walk is planned.

The focus seems to be 'growing soil' and 'growing community' ... a nurturing and connecting approach to nature and economy as we shift away from the mistakes of our past world economy which was not supportive of life, not in respect of people and culture, not in harmony with our divine biosphere, all our relations.

As soon as we have a public website, or contact person, I will post that information to the Ojai Garden page and the Ojai Post.

Meanwhile, I have many young mulberry trees which are looking for loving homes ... as I have raised so many that I no longer have time to water them all. Riviera mulberries, a long black-red fruit. The trees are 2 to 4 foot tall, about 8 months old.

Compost Workshop with Jessica Craven

The City of Ojai Community Demonstration Garden was brimming with residents eager to learn how to make compost this morning.composting-08-web1.jpg
Workshop participants learned about the pros and cons of the various bins on display and had a look at the compost bins available through the city's compost bin discount program.composting-08-web2.jpg
Master Gardener Jessica Craven covered all the basics, and discussed several different styles of composting. She also talked about the advantages of vermicomposting, which is ideal for those without yards who would like to keep food scraps out of the landfill and create a rich soil amendment.composting-08-web3.jpgParticipants helped build a compost pile, and then had a look at a finished compost pile that was made at the last workshop in December.composting-08-web4.jpgPhotos by Les Dublin.

Composting with Jessica Craven

Come celebrate International Compost Awareness Week in the Demo Garden, and learn how to make compost like a pro at a free, hands-on workshop with Master Gardener Jessica Craven. You can turn your kitchen and yard waste into a valuable soil amendment that your plants will love!

Help Mother Earth this Mother's Day weekend by keeping trash out of the landfill, and by using compost in your garden instead of expensive fertilizers that pollute our water. You'll save water by adding moisture-retaining compost to your soil, too! If you would like to help us make compost, please bring a bag of fruit and vegetable peelings to the workshop. The workshop will take place at 10:00 in the City of Ojai Community Demonstration Garden, 401 South Ventura Street, behind Ojai City Hall.
