Now blooming in the Ojai Community Demonstration Garden
these brightly colored spring bulbs liven up a shady spot.

Tiny Valley Oak seedlings (quercus lobata) were planted in the City of Ojai Community Demonstration Garden today.
The oaks were donated by Mrs. Brown's 4th grade class at the Topa Topa School, who planted the acorns last fall.
Later this spring, the class will come to the Demo Garden to learn about composting, organic gardening and, of course, plants that are suitable for planting under oaks.

A pair of Western Bluebirds make themselves at home in the City of Ojai Community Demonstration Garden.
This one is perched on a branch, waiting for lunch to fly by. Bluebirds eat lots of insects, so they are a very welcome sight in an organic garden. The Demo Garden provides important habitat for bluebirds, whose numbers are declining in California. Photo by Les Dublin.
at Campus West, the former Honour Farm, we are holding the inaugural Garden Potluck Party for our new Veggie Garden (behind Casa Grande and next to the new ElectroVersity Discovery Center).
! THIS DAY ! -- Noon to 2 pm, Tuesday -- !! TODAY!!

bring light fare -- healthy finger food like fruit and veggies. [we do not have tables or dishware or silverware for this event ... just a new garden space to stand in!]
eventually you will want to bring gloves and workclothes, as this will be a monthly working potluck. as of this time, until we get a couple thousand square feet of 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch square mesh donated -- gopher barrier -- and bring in loads of large stones for building the walls of the raised beds -- then later bringing in trucks of soil and compost -- we don't have any work to do other than talk and visualize and scheme. [anyone good at raising in-kind donations ... the gopher mesh we could have used a couple of months ago!]
Campus West is at Rice Road and Highway 150 and Baldwin Road, next to the River Bottom. tele 805-649-9218.
this Campus West party, of HELP Of Ojai, is open to the public.
This hummingbird enjoyed the native manzanita that is blooming in the City of Ojai Community Demonstration Garden
and also visited a drought-tolerant Australian plant (Eremophila glabra ‘Kalgoorlie’) on Friday.
