Raiding the Pantry

An Acorn Woodpecker was caught this morning snacking on its winter stash of acorns. It should have plenty to eat this winter, due to this fall's bumper crop. The City of Ojai Community Demonstration Garden provides much needed habitat for these woodpeckers, who rely on oaks for food, and other large trees that can be used as graneries. Compost Workshop with Jessica Craven

Over 40 people came out to the CIty of Ojai Community Demonstration Garden this morning to learn how to make compost. Expert composter Jessica Craven, a dynamic speaker, kept the crowd entertained as well as informed. Participants, who brought table scraps, helped create a compost pile. After the workshop, Jessica modeled her new Demo Garden tee shirt. Photos by Les Dublin.
