Low-Flow Irrigation Workshop

The sun came out on Saturday morning for the low-flow irrigation workshop with John Lamar. John spoke, answered questions and demonstrated irrigation techniques for two and a half hours. Master Gardener trainees and local residents learned how to set up an irrigation system that can conserve water and save money while saving our natural resources. Photos by Les Dublin.

Heap Heap Hooray!

Volunteers built a three-heap compost system in the City of Ojai Community Demonstration Garden today. Each heap will be ready to use at a different time, and together the heaps will demonstrate compost at different stages. Open-air compost heaps are practical for large properties, and the piles are easy to turn. To help retain moisture, the heaps are covered with tarps. Photos by Donna Dublin.

Horseradish

Horseradish flowers are a lovely and suprisingly graceful spring element of a plant that is often mistaken for a weed. These flowers will never set seeds, so horseradish is propagated by its vigorous roots. Photos by Les Dublin.
