Corporate Owned Organic Companies
One of the reasons I grow food is insure the quality and peace of mind knowing it is organic.
When I buy organic products it is important for me to know who I am supporting.
I found this "family tree" which explains who the corporations are that currently own the most popular organic food brands. Here is the link: Corporate Ownership Diagram

Raymond - I've seen in the news that Wal-Mart is moving into the organic food space, and will become the largest organic food supplier in the nation. What do you think about this? Is this good for consumers? Are they going to also have a Wal-Mart Organic brand on products too?

Companies like Wal-Mart and Safeway entering into the organic foods industry has its pros and cons. On the one hand it will help educate about the health and environmental benefits of organics on the con side it will impact severly revenue of the small oragnic farmer because these corporations will be buying from factory farms. Alos, it will be difficult to monitor the conditions of the farm workers on the organic farms that will be the suppliers. There is the potential for Wal-Mart to be supporting slave labor in the fields to supply organics in their stores.
I still say buy organic local and eat seasonally. That is the the healthiest and most socially responsible avenue to take.
